How to Play Diablo 1 and 2 Again Reddit
About to play Diablo 2 for the first time. Anything I should know?
So the diablo games came out when I was a kid and I kind of missed the boat, was playing Age of Empires and Counterstrike at that age but have finally got around to picking up D2 and the expansion. Anything I should know going into it?

PRO TIP: Named enemies with Lightning attributes are generally very easy and should be approached with no caution whatsoever. Good luck.

STR - enough to carry your gear
DEX - enough for the weapon you want
VIT - every other point

Hey, I'm about to start a paladin in II, and I had heard that while this is the normal build for other classes, I should also put more points into Dex for blocking. Any truth to that?

There is an age long debate about if you should have Dex just enough to wear your gear, or if you should go for max block.
It's up to you. Max block helps out a lot in Hell, in my opinion. Depends on what your char is as well.

The game is much more fun if you play without a guide, and just do what you want to do.
However, without a guide, you won't get anywhere in Hell, and may even have trouble in Nightmare.

I would suggest to play only normal difficulty with all the characters. That's at least 15 hours of gameplay. Then play nightmare (and try hell) with a character that you were most comfortable with.
Edit: I posted as a reply to fiduke because I agree with his post.

Get the high resolution pack.

Where? I would like this and didn't know it existed.

I suggest NOT knowing anything and not reading any guides. Play the game like many of us did the first time. You will appreciate the changes in Diablo 3 much more after seeing all the awesome parts of Diablo 2 amplified and most of the negatives of D2 fixed.

That's actually really good advice - I came here to say that they should read a guide so they can still play Hell. But leveling while filling up on stats/skills that will only hamper once they reach Hell will teach a valuable point in how the new system really is better.
Well done, sir.

I would say don't worry about builds and just play through normal as whatever character you want - unless you enjoy the character design/planning process (a lot of us do), or want to make sure you can make it all the way through hell difficulty, in which case check out some of the more popular forums.

...Give up your next week or two of social responsibilities.
And if you're playing alone, don't start with the Necro. IMHO, most fun character, but boss fights (particularly Diablo) can be a real bitch if you don't build right.

the ol' "3 hour fishymancer diablo battles" sure suck.
i'm not sure what build I'd start fresh with. Sorcs are pretty powerful without much gear, but you still run into the issue of killing baal, etc.

I'm with you buddy. Played the shit out of DII back in the day, and now that I'm out of the open beta I'm hopping back in as a druid. I vaguely remember most things, but I know for certain that just doing it how you want will be the most fun. I don't anticipate me or you jumping into the ladders, especially once DIII comes out, so don't worry about it, just have fun.

Stamina sucks and it will make early Act 1 and all of Act 3 miserable.
level 2
unless you're a barbarian

The last boss of Act II (Durial) is weirdly and painfully overpowered in normal mode. By far the hardest part of normal mode. I almost rage quit forever after dying 20 time the first time I played D2. Stick with it, and look up online as to how to beat him with your chosen class if needed

Diablo III is out on May 15.

My #1 piece of advice: when you meet someone in the game and you think they are trustworthy, they aren't.

And if they say they can duplicate items for you, they can't.
